Meet the Authors

Billy Dexter

Billy Dexter is a Detroiter who has spent half his adult life in Chicago. He is currently a Managing Partner at Heidrick & Struggles, a global leadership advisory search firm.

Billy grew up in a tough neighborhood in Detroit’s west side with very few role models and low expectations for career success and many would say if you just read the statistics his story should not have happened.

However, it did. What Billy had was passion and a strong sense of wanting a better life and to “break the circle” of poverty and no sense of purpose. He channeled his focus to get into college after many rejections and started his journey of making connections that developed into relationships which created many opportunities for Billy and those in his network.

Billy has been called a master networker and connector and has had a great career in higher education, starting with Central Michigan University and Michigan State. He then continued a vibrant corporate career that has taken him all over the world with United Airlines, Motorola, Deloitte, Monster Worldwide, Hudson Highland Group, Viacom/MTV Networks. Now, over the last twelve years connecting executive talent to major firms around the country at H&S.

Melissa G Wilson

Melissa is President of Networlding and Networlding Publishing Inc. She is also the author of five bestsellers. Her latest book, Networking is Dead: Creating Connections that Matter, was a Wall Street Journal and Barnes and Noble bestseller.

In 2009 Melissa started Networlding Publishing, for thought leaders who want to write books that make a difference in the world. She found that she could make the biggest difference by following her “Power of Ten” networking process to help 10-15 authors successfully write, publish and launch their books yearly.

Over the last 14 years, Melissa has taken her twenty years of experience in publishing to help 100 authors successfully write, publish and launch their books. Her clients have included people like the head of diversity for Hewitt, the president of Holland Cruise Lines, the head of a division of Allstate, the director of human resources for the NBA, a seven-time Inc. 500 entrepreneur, and thought leaders from many small and mid-sized companies

Melissa’s greatest passion is helping new adults get better starts in their lives and careers. To this end, she started a scholarship fund through her publishing arm to provide, at no cost, the opportunity for several non-profit leaders to launch their make-a-difference books as mentoring tools for disadvantaged new adults to get better starts in their lives.
